Welcome to the Nordic RWE webpage! On this webpage, you will find relevant information about RWE in the Nordic countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. We share updates on the progress of our projects, latest news in the media and contact details.
RWE is a German multinational energy company with global operations, leading the way to a green energy world. RWE Renewables has operated on the Nordic market since March 2018.
Sweden is a key market for the expansion of renewable energy and we are also expanding in Denmark, Norway and Finland. RWE currently operates almost 300 MW wind power in the Nordics, with onshore and offshore wind farms in Sweden and Denmark. In addition to that, the development portfolio has a potential of over 10 GW*.
(* the project development portfolio includes offshore projects that have not yet achieved full exclusivity)
Learn more about us hereIn Sweden we operate onshore and offshore wind farms. In line with our growth ambitions we are expanding our portfolio with new renewables assets, like Nysäter wind farm (475 MW) which has been in operation since June 2022 and represents one of the biggest onshore projects not only in Sweden, but also across Europe. We are currently developing our largest offshore project in the Nordics, Södra Victoria, with an estimated capacity between 1,400 MW up to 2,000 MW, the wind farm will strengthen energy supply to southern Sweden.
In Denmark, RWE is further progressing with the deployment of its Thor offshore wind farm. With a planned capacity of 1,000 MW, Thor will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date. RWE is already operating the Danish Rødsand 2 offshore wind farm with an installed capacity of 207 MW. RWE share is 20% and Rødsand 2 has been in operation since 2010.
RWE has been active in Norway since 2012. The expansion of offshore wind is a crucial factor for energy transition in Norway. RWE will use our experience to contribute to the development of the next energy era at the Norwegian continental shelf. Together with our partners Havfram, NTE, Equinor and Hydro REIN, RWE will contribute to the development of new offshore wind projects in Norway.
Data networks, mobility, industry, infrastructure, businesses, family: We all need energy. Society is facing a major task as a result: meeting a growing need for electricity while protecting the climate. RWE is a driver of the energy transition and, with an extensive investment and growth strategy, it will expand its powerful, green generation capacity to 50 gigawatts internationally by 2030. RWE is investing more than €50 billion gross for this purpose in this decade. The portfolio is based on offshore and onshore wind, solar, hydropower, hydrogen, batteries, biomass and gas.
RWE Supply & Trading provides tailored energy solutions for large customers. Innovative projects such as floating offshore and the use of hydrogen are proceeding apace. RWE has locations in the attractive markets of Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. The company is responsibly phasing out nuclear energy and coal. RWE employs around 19,000 people worldwide and has a clear target: to get to net zero by 2040. On its way there, the company has set itself ambitious targets for all activities that cause greenhouse gas emissions. The Science Based Targets initiative has confirmed that these emission reduction targets are in line with the Paris Agreement. Very much in the spirit of the company’s purpose:
Our energy for a sustainable life.
